And interestingly, Sarah notes while women are more likely to be the victims of online bullying or shaming… they can often be the perpetrators also.
‘Women are more subject to online abuse than men, any statistic out there will tell you that. What is interesting, it is not just from men. There is a growing trend of women going after women which is really sad’
‘There is a trend, particularly in the influencing industry, where women are jumping in there and harassing and bullying other women,’ says Sarah.
There are a number of websites that comment on influencers and bloggers which generate some really harmful content. There have been multiple attempts to remove these websites, one generating a petition with 62,000 signatures.
‘Not knowing the consequences of being engaged with these harmful websites is dangerous for an individual. You have to think about that, there has to be total accountability, you have to know the consequences,’ Sarah says.
